ESTATE MERLOT CABERNET
2013

The grapes for this beautifully crafted Merlot Cabernet were selected from superior Hawkes Bay vineyards ideally suited to Bordeaux reds.

2015 was an excellent ripening season for Hawkes Bay fruit, with warm dry days and sunshine in abundance. Tropical cyclone Pam made a brief appearance during mid-March, fortunately with little effect, bringing slightly cooler pre- harvest temperatures. However, the fruit was brought to optimum ripeness, and was harvested 16-18 April 2015.

The final blend was composed from 54% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc. Each parcel was individually fermented in stainless steel tanks, for enhanced colour and flavour. The parcels were then sent to barrel for added complexity of predominantly French oak seasoning for fourteen months, then blended back to shape the final wine. Bottling took place in September 2016, under screwcap closure.

This fine Merlot Cabernet blend has lovely blackcurrant and boysenberry aromas and flavours, complemented with delicate floral notes, subtle liquorice, leather and spice complexity and a lingering nutmeg finish. Matured in quality French oak for fourteen months, it is approachable and will pair perfectly with your favourite pasta dish.
